Katie Bailey photographs anything that stays still long enough and loves the challenge of taking anything that doesn't. She went from snap happy child, appearing as if by magic any time a camera was brought out, to shy youth who took to hiding behind the lens and this is where she found her place in the world. Discovering her pastime could be a career took her from documenter of friends and family to professional portraiture. With nearly a decade of experience in this field, specialising in photographing children, her enthusiasm, like her patience, never fades.
It makes me smile to think that, while I'm never happier than when I'm behind the camera, there was a time I used to hate having my own picture taken! That is until I came to understand two things - how grateful I am to my Grandfather for always having his camera on him and always making sure I was part of the happy memories he captured of our family (a greater treasure than these I do not own). And I realised being photographed is great when you simply concentrate on just being you, being there. Enjoy the experience, have fun and let go of the end result, and the end result will be images you love.
